A bright, fresh place for sharing activities and events
Following the AGM in 2015, when the previous Committee resigned after many years in post, a new Committee was formed. Mostly made up of local people, some have become Trustees to act as a Management Committee to take the venue into the next phase.
The hall has gone through a renovation process, and the main hall has been re-painted and the floor re-polished. It was looking very tired with no polish left, but now it has been restored to its former glory and we intend to maintain it at this level of quality.
A disabled cloakroom, funded by the Freemasons, has been installed in order to enable people with mobility problems to participate in our activities. Cladding on the exterior to keep the building watertight and new windows in the main hall have been installed to keep us dry and warm. The new Committee has worked hard to bring the building up to scratch again.
We also have 9 kilowatts of solar panels on the roof doing our bit for the environment. This is coupled to a water heater to give us hot water for free on sunny days, and a battery to power the hall for free whenever possible, reducing our use of electricity from the grid.
New toilets, paid for with fundraising, are available to our hirers.
Every penny raised with fundraising, from our regular and occasional hire and all grants and donations are pumped back into the community centre to improve the place for everyone. None of the volunteers or trustees is paid and all work is done for the community by a small but perfectly formed team who work hard to make the centre a great place to be enjoyed by all.
Chairman
Sue became Chairman in 2022 taking over from Philippa and moving from Secretary. She brings her dynamism, optimism and energy to the team and keeps everyone on target and motivated.
Treasurer
Angela looks after the money side of things, and ensures that any spending is done sensibly.
Bookings Secretary
Nick joined the Committee in 2022 and offered to upgrade the bookings "system" from a paper diary on a desk to something electronic and online. That offer became "and can you operate it as well?". He now looks after all regular and occasional bookings, invoicing, the web site, the CCSG email system and the electronic filing. He has recently also become the book keeper to make life easier for the Treasurer.
Secretary
Sonia joined the team in 2023 and volunteered to be the secretary. Sonia brings her passion and her love of family and community as well as her flair for cooking! This usually also means that her family "volunteer" for events as well!
General Committee
Ed, Lesley, Margaret, Paul and Stuart complete the list of volunteers. Opening the hall, locking it up, tidying it up, painting, gardening, weeding, clearing and anything else that needs doing.
